Choosing Crafts That Are In Demand

by: Leslie Norman

When you make your living off of your arts and crafts, make sure that it's a marketable craft that's in demand. There are a few rules of thumb you can follow to make sure your craft has marketability, here are a few of them.

Is your craft a necessity?
The best-selling crafts are the ones that are needed by consumers, not ones that are simply wanted by consumers. So if you're making something like wooden hand-painted tables, they are far more likely to sell than something like dolphin sculptures.

Is your craft seasonal?
Don't expect to make a living off of something like custom made Christmas trees. They most likely won't sell as well in July than in December. Try to pick crafts that do not have a shelf life or are not seasonal.

Does your craft target your demographic?
Where will you be selling your craft? Are you selling it at a bait and tackle shop? Then perhaps you should make a fishing-related craft and not something like embroidered baby blankets.

Keeping these things in mind, you are now ready to choose the crafts you will create for your business. Remember to always have fun and good luck!
