There
are a lot of people selling on the Internet already and making
a pretty good living at it. However we will debunk some of
the Internet Myths that new webmasters are suseptible into
believing.
If
it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Don't
believe those sites hype that say things like "create
a cash cow overnight" or I saw one today that said "make
$1500 an hour". There is no one....no one.... who makes
that much money in a day, a week, or even a month on the Internet
unless their product is popular already offline.
Do
not buy into the hype that you are going to get rich quick.
There is no such thing online unless you are ripping people
off. Working on Internet Sales is hard work. I have been in
the business for 7+ years now and I am still learning tricks
of the trade and sometimes I work 12-14 hours a day.
Just
because you built a website doesn't mean you will have instant
visitors. In fact the opposite is true. Unless you
purchase traffic, link exchange with others, write articles
linking back to your site, or promoting your site in other
ways you won't get any visitors at all. It's quite hard to
get visitors to come to your site and it take a lot of know
how.
Just
because you have a lot of visitors doesn't mean you will have
a lot of sales. I had one site getting over 40,000
page views a day at one time and making very little sales.
That is because it was poorly marketed and I didn't really
know what I was doing. Marketing is very important to your
website.
Find
your niche market, not everything will sell. Sites
that have micro niche products or less available products
do better. For instance I wouldn't open up a website selling
digital cameras or computers because then I would be competing
with big companies like Best Buy or Circuit City. How can
a small guy compete with that? Sell harder to find products
and rare services for best results.
